the tulip speaks
Our job is to create an installation that explores the relationship between humans and nature through a non-anthropocentric design, with the goal of spreading awareness and creating discussion about the Dutch tulip bulb industry.

final concept
Ultimately, The Tulip Speaks stood out as the most inclusive, emotionally layered, and contextually grounded concept.

testing
We chose to prototype the one room in the installation that would have the biggest emotional impact on users, the Dead Tulip Field. Using just simple materials like a textured mat, cardboard and branches, we aimed to create an immersive experience to gauge participants’ emotions and overall perception.
I had lots of fun…
hifi prototype
Building on feedback from the low-fidelity version, we developed a high-fidelity prototype with added layers of sound design, lighting, tactile materials, and smell. This version aimed to fully immerse users in an eerie, decaying future caused by unsustainable tulip farming.
unexpected layer
I got really immersed in the project and came up with an additional dark layer to the installation.
DEATH BY A FLOWER
Crucified monkey as a symbol of humanity that was crucified by Nature for all the sins we committed against Her.
Monkey penetrated by a Tulip as a symbol of how humans are raping earth of its resources.
Before She died, Nature offered humanity its last Tulip, but it turned out to be the very thing that killed humanity. Because when Nature dies, we dies.

conclusions
The goal for our design was not to create a solution for the problem, but rather to create a space that would prompt visitors of all ages and backgrounds to reflect on their relationship with and impact on nature. The final concept consists of a series of rooms, each telling its own part of a story about the appreciation and neglect of nature, and its consequences, told through the lens of tulips.
